From this point the view is mag-nificent over city and bay. \Yq proceeded along the mountainside on the back of Lions Head, gradually dropping downuntil we came to Camps Bay on the sea side. There are heretwelve small mountain peaks above the sea shore called thetwelve apostles. 143 OUR HOLIDAY IX AFRICA M^^. CECIL JOHN RHODES We went out to see the home of the right Hon. CecilRhodes, cahed Groote Shuiir. It is an estate of several hun-dred acres, lying on the side of the mountain, much of whichis covered by a forest of pine trees. The avenue leading to itis through a stately collonade of pines, nearly a hundred feetwide. The estate is laid out in gardens, has a high fenced past-ure for herds of animals, such as the South African buck, zebra,monkeys and other beasts, and houses built especially for house is stately looking, built of white plaster and brickwith a fine veranda across the front. At his death it was willedto the Cape Colony government, to be occupied by the Premierof the Union of South African States. At present it is occu-pied by General Botha, of Boer War fame.
