Mr. Charles Gibb was born at Monireal on the 30th of June, 1846. Hereceived his early education at Bishops College, Lennoxville, and went fromthere to McGill College, Montreal, where h graduated , at the age ofnineteen. The application necessary to complete a college course success-fully at so early an age. not only injured his eyesight, but also much im-paired his health, and he was told by physicians that he had only a few. Charles Gibb. years, perhaps only a few monlh< to live, and ihey advised him to seek re-cuperation in foreign travel. Tliis he did, going abroad in company withhis uncle, Mr. J. J. Gibb, of Como. This first trip was of two or three yearsduration, and embraced visits to Egyjpt, the Holy Land, and afterwardsSwitzerland and Europe generally. On his return he engaged in the cultivation of fruit, in the State ofPennsylvania, no doubt because he rightly considered it one of the mosthealthful, as well as one of the most interesting departments of climate of Pennsylvania not agreeing with him, he returned to Canada,and purchased the farm on the slope of the Yamaska moumtain, at Abbotts-ford, so well known to us all of late years, on account of the interesting ex-periments with Russian and other hardy fruits which he has carried outthere.
