Lugano (930 ft.), the largest and busiest town in the Swisscanton of Ticino, with 7160 inhab., is charmingly situated onthe lake of the same name, and enjoys quite an Italian climate (theagave blooming here in the open air). It is a very pleasant placefor a lengthened stay. The winter temperature is somewhat higherthan that of Montreux or Meran, from which Lugano is also distin-guished by its comparatively low elevation above the sea.
