At present thewindows are open to the air, for the mosque is disused, and is under repair,a new roof having lately been put on ; and the floor is encumbered with hugetimbers the debris of the old one, which I understand was damaged by fire. De-metrius,Salonica Besides the western entrance the Eski Djouma hasa south porch with a barrel vault springing from dwarfpilasters with flat Byzantine capitals; a very interestingfeature of the building. The apse (Fig. 12), which is semicircular both insideand out, is lighted by three very large round headedwindows, and has no architectural feature outside but asimple moulding at the impost level of the window , the semi-dome was decorated with fresco painting,as were also the soffits of the aisle windows, which werepainted in patterns like mosaic, inside and outside of aline which marks the place of the window frame.
