Many a time has he taken his typewriter to the potting shed and trans- cribed his shorthand notes between punches at the boiler, making cuttings, or potting some pet plant or plants. So he is in the flower business from the love of it. The business under his management has continued to grow until now there are six 100-loot houses, in which he has grown some stock which contradicts the general idea that good roses, carnations, etc., cannot be grown so far south. We present an engraving of his carnation house, which speaks volumes for a man who never served an apprenticeship, nor visited an up-to-date grower's place. It also speaks volumes for the many lucid suggestions to be found in the American Florist, of which Mr. Lindsay is a reg- ular student. The Lindsay Floral Company was granted a charter to engage in this busi- ness under the laws of Alabama on May i). Prior to this, .\pril 28, Mr. Lindsay j was run into by a bicylist coming from behind, without signal of approach, and was knocked into the gutter. He is now unable to go beyond the confines of his home and store because he suffers from a broken ankle. Fortunately for him, if such can be called so, it was the ankle of his lame leg which was broken, otherwise he would have been unable to leave his bed for at least two or three months. This, of course, has materially inter- fered with Mr. Lindsay's plans, as he had intended taking a trip, visiting some of the great growers in other states, taking in their methods of constructio
