The tabletis unfortunately mutilated: but it apparently informs an unnamedgeneral that Zimrida has been incited, and perhaps has even agreed,to call out the city against the king. The discovery of this tabletwas important; for it fixes the date of City III, in the ruins of whichit was found, to about b. c. 1400. Scarabs of the XYIIIth Dynastyappear in the same stratum, pointing to the same date. AboveCity III there comes a layer of ashes, varying from 3 to 7 feet inthickness, the origin
