The Hampton Roads Naval Museum had the opportunity to welcome a Vietnam Veteran this afternoon to its gallery. Mr. David Benites, a former STG3 aboard the USS Ernest G. Small (DD/DDR-838) served aboard the ship during the Vietnam War; from 1966 to 1969. After touring the museum’s gallery and talking candidly with staff members about his service in Vietnam; he stopped at the museum’s front desk and was presented with a commemorative Vietnam Veteran pin by Museum Educator, Zach Smyers. Smyers, a former Sonar Technician in the US Navy, exchanged some cordials together with Mr. Benites. He quickly

Small (DD/DDR-838) served aboard the ship during the Vietnam War; from 1966 to 1969. After touring the museum’s gallery and talking candidly with staff members about his service in Vietnam; he stopped at the museum’s front desk and was presented with a commemorative Vietnam Veteran pin by Museum Educator, Zach Smyers. Smyers, a former Sonar Technician in the US Navy, exchanged some cordials together with Mr. Benites. He quickly placed the pin on his hat, and commented that it was the first Vietnam commemorative pin that he has ever received. He and his wife reside in Avondale, Arizona and were in the Hampton Roads area visiting.
