The planting season, which was two weeks early at Chicago on April 10, has been retarded by much cold and rainy weather until it may at this date be called a late one. Dull and irregular retail trade has resulted. Miss Laura Frances Leonard, the daughter of S. F. Leonard, of Chicago, was married April 23 to Farhn H. Ball, son of Judge Farlin Q. Ball, one of Chi- cago's best known jurists. Mr. and Mrs. Ball will reside at Oak Park, 111. Sweet corn contract prices with grow- ers in Connecticut are advancing and are now at about high water mark, in the neighborhood of $ to $ per bushel for Stowell's Evergreen. Many farmers' contract on the basis of market prices in the fall. The American Seed Company filed arti- cles of association at Detroit, April 15. The capital stock is $25,000, with $15,000 paid in, and the incorporators are: Joseph L. Gillespie, 1,312 shares. Chas. W. Latham, 187; John Bingen, 1; Joseph J. Gillespie, trustee, 1,000.
