Distant view of one of the 154 menhirs in the Cham des Bondons area of Lozère, France

A distant view of one of the 154 menhirs in the Cham des Bondons group in the Lozère department of France. The menhirs are of granite from the nearby Mont Lozère. They represent the second largest group in France, the largest being at Carnac in Britanny. The purpose of the stones was unknown. They date from the late Neolithic-early Bronze age. Many were toppled in the middle ages as they were thought to be "heathen." They have now been righted.
