Liberty Monument standing on top of Gellért Hill. Buda, Budapest
Liberty Statue or Liberty Monument is located on top of Gellért Hill overlooking the River Danube. It was designed by the Hungarian sculptor Zsigmond Kisfaludi to commemorate the liberation of Budapest by the Russian army in 1947. It was originally called the Liberation Statue, but the name was changed after the withdrawal of soviet influence in Hungary.
