It would be untimely forme to take note of the various steps which led up to suchrenown. In a general way I may say that his profes-sional relations to hospitals were numerous. His pop-ularity as a teacher, both in his private schools and inthe University of Pennsylvania, was unrivaled. As awriter he contributed many papers and monographs tothe literature of surgery of much value.
