The pious missionary con-secrated it to its use with a most befit-ting: In nomine Patris ct Filii ct Spiri-tiis Sancti inscribed on the very title page is Registre des Baptimes adininistrcs aiix Francois dans la missionde St. Ignace de Micliilimackinac. AuxFrangois (an obsolete form for Franqais)May mean that baptisms of savages werenot recorded at all or that a special regis-ter was kept for them. We rather thinkthat a full register was kept, but thatPere Du Jaunay copied the names of theFrench only, because one single baptismthat of Antoine Menard, son of MauriceMenard, deceased, on the 28th of August,1695, appears prior to 1712, the year ofthe return of the Jesuits. Second ST. Pauls school and convent of st. Joseph sisters at,nbgaunee. September 27th, 1712, registers the bap-tism of Daniel Villeneuve. This abridge-ment gives only date of baptism,name ofthe baptized, and of the parents, but doesnot mention the priest who conferred thesacrament and for that reason it losesall historic value. The first entry, con-temporaneous with the register, is thebaptism of one Louis Joseph Chaboyer,on October 4, 1741, by Jean Baptiste La-morinie, a missionary of the Society ofTesus. 116 HISTORY OF THE DIOCESE OF On the reverse side of the book are re-corded marriages.
