A parade of giants started some years ago in Chester reviving an ancient tradition. The parade usually takes place on the Saturday and Sunday nearest to mid summer’s day. This year’s event saw the largest number of giants to date providing an amazing spectacle for the crowds of people that came to watch. HUNDREDS of people waved flags, cheered and danced as the streets of Chester were filled with a spectacular parade of royal giants as 60 giant Queen Elizabeth IIs were paraded through the city centre to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and kick start this year’s Chestival celebrations. Excited children with their faces painted red, white and blue and dressed in royal robes and princess dresses perched on their parents shoulders as they watched the giants wind through the crowds to the beat of the samba drums.
