The one thing that saved the rods frombeing bent and broken was the eccentric slipping on the shaft. A task and a surprise awaited the writer. The valve rods weredisconnected and bonnet taken down to remove the valve stem. Asmall jack was applied, but to no purpose. Seeing that it wouldtake some time to make repairs, with the shop 900 miles away,the low pressure side was disconnected and part of the loadcarr
