Dipping Sheep.—Sheep may be profit-ably dipped twice ayear, once just afterthey are shearedand again in theautumn. The coal-tar preparations areprobably the best and cheapest dips. The directions for theiruse are generally printed on the cans. Ordinarily one part ofdip to one hundred parts of water is used. Dipping overcomessheep scab and sheep ticks. Thefemale mite deposits 12 to 15 eggs which hatch in 3 or 4 days,mature in 7 or 8, and begin to lay eggs, the whole Kfe cycle beingcomplete in 12 days. When dipping sheep, care should be takento have the dip warm, about 100° to 105° Fahr. After the sheephave all been dipped they should be kept in a warm, dry placenot exposed to drafts. Feeding Sheep. — Sheep need feed for both flesh and , mixed with legume hay, is generally fed in the UnitedStates as far west as Colorado; farther west wheat or barley isused instead of corn. Lambs weighing from 60 to 80 poundsmay be given the following daily ration: Shelled corn to pounds Clover or alfalfa to pounds Com stover, corn silage, com, and oat straw may furnish thecarbonaceous part of the feed.
