HOLMESMr. Holmes was born Sept. 22, 1851 in Cher-ry township, Sullivan county, and is the oldestof a family of eight children. He attendedschool in one .of the first plank school-houses inCherry township. He helped his father on thefarm during the spring, summer and autumnmonths, attending school only three or fourmonths during the Avinter. In 1865 his fathermoved from the farm to Laporte, Sullivancounty, to give his childien better school ad-. RESIDENCE OP A. R. HOLLBNBACK Built in 1S41 by Amos Learn Susquehanna, near McKunes. He was , energetic, and built up a large mer-ehantile business, which he conducted until ashort time before his death. He was liberal inhis contributions, and his name was at the headof nearly every subscription paper. He was oneof five men who gave the bell to the Presbyter-ian church when it was repaired in 1901. ARTHUR R. HOLLENBAOK Mr. IToUenback, the third son of Dr. Uriasand Margaret (Weiss) HoUenbaok was bornFeb. 8, 1859, in Falls township, Wyomingcounty. Plere he lived until twenty-one yearsof age, when he went to Springfield, Ohio,where he learned the carpenters trade. Helived in Nebraska and Colorado about two 1887 he moved to Scranton, working at histrade. In March, 1898, he came to NewtontoAATiship, and purchased the farm he nowowns.
