This latter variety is the largest tree in thehickory family, often reaching a height of onehundred and seventy feet. It is sometimesfound as far north as the Ohio River, but at-tains its best development in Texas, wheregreat supplies of the popular nuts are shippedto market. The city boy on a visit to the country isoften puzzled in trying to distinguish black wal-nuts and butternuts in the green state. The.
