Aedes albopictus (also known as Stegomyia albopicta) is a mosquito from the Culicidae family. It is also known as the (Asian) tiger mosquito or forest mosquito and is native to the tropical and subtropical areas of Southeast Asia. However, in the past couple of decades this species has invaded many countries throughout the world through the transport of products and international travel. Aedes albopictus is an important insect vector for the transmission of many viral pathogens. Magnification: x5 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
