Field, house Wlieaton, 111 July, 1913 Field, lumse Rust was not present in Chicago, Des Plaines, Elmhurst, Geneva, Joliet, Lex- ington, Libertyville, Morgan Park, Waukegan and Western Springsi .^ Two suppositions can be made as to the origin of this rust in the regions north of Chicago. One is that the rust spores were brought in on seeds or cut- tings, the second that the rust is pres- ent on wild A. majus, escaped from cul- tivation, or on linaria (butter and eggs) found growing in the fields, and that the rust on these plants has also at- tacked the A. majus grown for com- mercial purposes. Most of the growers are of the opin- ion that the rust sprang up locally and was not introduced on seeds. This point will be determined this coming year. While most growers in the middle west do not fear attacks of rust any more, it seems highly possible that the rust HOUSTON.
