On the coloured neck band or collar of each donkey at the sanctuary is the name of the donkey, its current age and a Donkey Sanctuary admission number. A red collar indicates that the donkey is a castrated boy or gelding. The name of this donkey is Jim or Jimmie. The Donkey Sanctuary is a registered charity that works to transform the lives of donkeys across the world. In the UK it has six public-facing sanctuaries, including the one at Sidmouth, and operates seven closed farms. Across these sites, it cares for more than 4,300 animals giving them a life of loving care, free from suffering.
