Another and important advantage isthe extreme lightness of the machines cutting dies are in separate segments,(4 in No. 1 and No. 2 stocksl. and (5in the No. 2, No. 20, and No. 3). Theylie loose in the slots, the rear end rest-ing against the tapering surfaces of theslots and pins. As the dies progress incutting the thread, the pipe itself forcesthem back against the tapering and produce a thread, clean cut and per-fect, and of standard taper. The grad-ual backing away from the centre ofeach die segments relieves the opera-tion from the friction-producing, incid-ent to all other dies, and there is thesecret of the ease in operation.
