The Ullsteinhaus is an historic listed building in Brick Expressionist style . Brick facade, owl sculpture at A entrance in Tempelhof-Berlin it was the tallest skyscraper in Germany for 30 years. Mariendorfer Damm 1-3, Tempelhof-Berlin,Germany It is on the Teltowkanal on the Stubenrauchbrücke, opposite the Tempelhof harbor and is next to the underground station Ullsteinstraße that is served by the U-6 line. The building was commissioned by the Ullstein Verlag (Publishing company) and was originally called Ullstein-Druckhaus to distinguish it from the Ullstein publishing house building in the former newspaper district on Kochstraße (now Rudi-Dutschke-Straße) that were destroyed during WW2. Magazines and books were produced at Ullstein House & the newspapers remained in Kochstrasse. The Nazi regime expropriated the company of the Jewish publishing family by buying the company in 1934 at a ridiculous price. On May 3, 1935 Ullsteinstraße was renamed Zastrowstraße, Ullstein became the "German publisher" and the Ullsteinhaus was called "German House" until 1946. The family Ullstein received the company back in 1952 back and in 1956/1957, the part of the building on Ullsteinstrasse, which was originally only two storeys was heightened slightly and adapted to the other sections of the building. The Ullstein heirs sold blocks of shares of the house to the publisher Axel Springer who soon sold entire building but newspapers and magazines were still printed here until 1985. A nine-storey extension built by Gernot and Johanne Nalbach between 1991 to 1993 and smaller commercial and fashion companies moved into the commercial building.
