On September 21, 22 and 23, the tempera- ture in this city and vicinity went as high as 92 degrees F. in the shade. As a matter of course, such unusual heat at this season, upset business. Even our Hebrew friends, who had just put fall overcoats in their show windows, were slightly jarred. September 24 and 25 were no great improvement on the preceding days, but on the night of September 25 there was rain and the weather turned cool. Stock accumulated and prices dropped, but all this is merely an incident. Chrysan- themums are now arriving in consider- able quantities. The supply of roses and carnations is also increasing. September 28.—The market opened this morning under more favorable conditions. A decidedly cool wave has somewhat shortened the supply and the outlook is more cheerful. Cattleya orchids continue plentiful and very cheap. There is no stability in prices on American Beauty roses; one reason may be that there are various kinds of American Beauties reaching this market, and further there does not seem to be much demand even for the best. THE SEED TRADE. All the seedsmen are active and dis- playing their wares to the best ad- vantage. It is doubtful if such good exhibits of bulbs were ever before seen in the seed stores of this city.
