Co.,with a capital stock of $1,000,000; the Du Pont Powder 214 Works with a capital slock of $1,000,000, and the Huis-kamp Shoe Co. with a capital of $500,000. Besides thecanal costing $7,000,000 the government has recently builtdry docks and a court house costing $100,000. It isonly a question of time in which to interest capital in theundeveloped resources that will make this city one of the V. r< K I STKEET RAILWAY AND IOU L greatest manufacturing centers of the West. The bestcivil engineers have estimated the fall of the river in frontof the city and say that at a cost of $200,000 the greatestand best water power in the country may be in connection with late inventions in electricity, bymeans of which power may be trans-mitted, gives flattering hopes for thefuture and great things may be ex-pected. The cars are marvels of comfortand attractiveness and of splendidworkmanship, having been built atihe shops of the St. Louis Car Com-pany.
