We began hybridizing the original Winter- Flowering Sweet Peas, namely, Burpee's Earliest of All (Christmas Pink), Burpee's Earliest White, Burpee's Earliest Sunbeams and Burpee's Re- selected Earliest Of All with the finest varieties of the summer flowering Spencers at our FORD- HOOK FARMS in 1909. It is, however, qujte a slow process to thoroughly "true" and "fix" these seedlings, and it being against the principles of our business to put any novelty on the market in an unfixed condition, we are offering only two varieties at present. The stocks of these, we know to be absolutely fixed, true to color and type. After our crops are harvested we may be in a position to offer, in a limited way, several other winter-flowering novelties, particulars of which will be found in Burpee's Annual for 1916. FORDHOOK PINK This is the result of a cross made at our Ford- hook Farms in 1909. The color is a beautiful shade of rose-pink on white ground; the coloring deepening towards the edge of the standard and wings. The flowers are of largest size, 'teya exquisitely waved and usually produced in J threes and fours on long stems. Unsurpassed gjgl for cut flower trade.
