In the early 90s C. commenced making pressed steel car shapes in hislittle plant in lower Allegheny and for years supplied therailroads with pressed steel center plates, side bearings, stakepockets, push pole pockets, etc., for use in connection withthe construction of wooden cars. During the same time theFox plant out on Penn avenue was furnishing pressed steeltrucks and truck specialties to railroads for use on woodenequipment. About 1S9S Mr. Schoen conceived the idea of buildingsteel cars on a large scale. The following year the firststeel cars were ordered by the Pittsburgh,
