Great enthusiasm is dis- played by the members and the attend- ance maintained at the meetings is ex- cellent, especially considering the long journeys some of the members have to make. Feelings of general regret were expressed on account of the resigna- tion of the vice-president, Oscar Addor, who finds that he is not able to give due attention to the office. By the unanimous vote of the members, H. Wild was elected vice-president for the ensuing year. The best wishes of the society were extended to James Aitchison, who is about to take up his residence in an- other locality. The speaker for the evening was William Scott, of Scott Bros., Elms- ford, N. Y., who delivered a thoroughly practical address on the growing of carnations. The fact that this meeting had been set aside as carnation night brought out a large number of fine ex- hibits. The three prizes given by the society were awarded as follows: First, James Aitchison; second, A. L. Mar- shall; third, E. Johnson. Excellent cul- ture was also noted in the following exhibits: A. L. Marshall, honorable mention for Neph- rolepls magniflca. James Aitchison, cultural certificate for cycla- men and Primula malacoides. A. Wynne, honorable mention for Scblzanthus Wisetonensis. Alex. Geddes, honorable mention for carnation seedling. Thos. Aitchison, cultural certificate for vase of calla lilies. Geo. E. Baldwin Co., Mamaroneck, N. Y., highly commended for finely flowered Cattleya Lawrenceana. P. W. Popp, honorable mention for Carnation California Giant and lily of the valley. Thos.
