Frankie Woodgate & Tobias using a 'Timber arch' to pull partially suspended tree trunks, Scotney Castle, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK
PHOTO:JEFF GILBERT 29th April 2022 Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK Picture shows Frankie Woodgate & Tobias using a ‘timber arch’ to pull partially suspended tree tunks. A romantic ruined castle in Kent is swapping modern machinery for heavy horses to help care for its woodlands - mimicking a tradition that dates back centuries. Real horse-power will be used by the National Trust at Scotney Castle for the first time this weekend to clear timber that has been removed as part of coppicing work, a technique which stimulates tree growth and improves wildlife habitats
