Eric Morecambe was born 1926 in Morecambe. He was christened John Eric Bartholomew and took the name of his home town as a stage name when he started in show business. He died in 1984. The statue was sculpted by Graham Ibbeson and erected on the seafront at Morecambe in 1999.
