The mode of using this lamp is to fillthe cylinder with alcohol by means of the tube a till it commences torun out of the jet c, then cork up the open end of the tube a, observ-ing not to secure the cork too tightly, for fear of explosions. Abouttwo fluidounces of alcohol are now poured into the central chamber,or sufficient to cover the bottom and rise to within an inch or two ofthe orifice at c.
