Even though most Western governments Health services have advised people not to start taking Potassium Iodide tablets the sales of the tablets have soared after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. The tsunami that followed the massive earthquake in March of 2011 in Japan damaged the cooling systems of all six nuclear reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power station on the Pacific Coast of Japan. Civilians from Los Angeles to London have rushed to buy Potassium Iodide tablets. Taking Potassium Iodide tablets floods the thyroid gland and does not allow it to absorb more radioactive material.
