Detail of the railing next to the towpath on Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which carries the Llangollen Canal over the river Dee

A young man fell to his death in May, 2016 when walking across the aqueduct. He had squeezed through a gap to the outside of the railings when one of the metal uprights of the railings he was holding gave way. The coroner considered that the railings were too wide at 195mm as they did not meet the current industry standards of 110mm.
