De-fendants had entereda plea of guilty onfour minor charges,that of attemptingto rob the StandardBank of Toronto,robbing the post-office at Aurora,horse stealing and stealing a revolver from an Schubert and McGrath of Chicago weresummoned to Toronto as witnesses to testify as to thecontents found in the trunks when the men were arrestedon Ashland avenue. Late that afternoon they were handcuffed together andplaced in a carriage to be taken back to jail. Jones, whowas considered the most desperate man of the three, hadhandcuffs on both wrists, while Rice, who is left-handed,was placed on his right, and Rutledge on the left.
