Sheep virus research. Veterinary medical officer using a microscope to examine an epithelial cell in a sheep lung infected with the malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) virus. The red area is the virus, and the green area is the cell. MCF is a leading cause of disease in American bison. It is usually transmitted from sheep to bison and cattle.
