The unique Mohave fringe-tailed lizard thrives in sand dunes, and Army Yuma Proving Ground's are far away from any populated areas and rarely traversed by people or equipment. "It's a fascinating creature," said Daniel Steward, YPG wildlife biologist. "Everybody's ultimate goal is to conserve this species on our own."
