The coronavirus pandemic has forced feminist organizations and groups to change their format to celebrate International Women's Day this year. The health recommendations for social distancing and safety and hygiene measures to avoid COVID-19 infections are part of all the calls organized throughout Spain. As in other years, several organizations have convened events prior to 8M for this Sunday, March 7. The objective, as usual, to vindicate feminism and the struggle of women. However, the scenes of mass marches cannot be repeated: the Ministry of Health recommends not holding them and some cities such as Madrid have banned demonstrations for public health reasons. Hence, in the case of 8M, the groups have scheduled other types of events other than demonstrations to maintain the safety of the participants at all times. At least 56 previous events have been called for the eve of International Women's Day, the majority in Madrid neighborhoods. This Sunday, the feminist "coladas", the "bicicletadas" or "feminist laces" will replace the mass demonstrations in the streets of the capital. They will be events with maximum capacity and some require prior registration. The International Women's Day of 2021 will be very different from that of 2020. In each call, the organizers place special emphasis on compliance with health measures to stop COVID-19, which is currently on the decline in Spain. As a general rule, the use of a double mask is recommended to avoid openings that allow the passage of aerosols, or the FFP2 masks, always covering the nose and mouth.
