The color is a deep green, sometimes becoming blackish; when of this color it some- what resembles Plagiocliila asplcnoidcs, but the leaves are very entire and at the end of the shoots the underleaves can usually be made out clearly, as the plant tissues are quite transparent. The underleaves are rather small and are deeply bifid with very nar- row slender segments.
