This arrangement is beingused on large Mikado type locomotives equipped with Streetstokers, and is giving excellent service. With this design caremust be taken to give the shaking lever full movement in thecab. The bars should tilt until the edges strike against thegrouping rods on the arms of the bars. While this type was primarilyadopted on account of the fine coal used with the Street stoker, its use has been extended to other locomotives using lumpcoal, with excellent results. With the use of a Tabor mold-ing machine the molds for this grate can be made for 15 centseach. It will be noted by referring to Fig. 5 that the shakingarras are of such construction as to permit the cleaning of thegrates in the rattler after they are cast.
