Two Chinese figures. Meissen, c 1748 modelled by Johann Joachim Kandler (1706-1775) and Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695-1749), bases : Paris, painted hard-paste porcelain, gilt bronze. These porcelain figures were made in Meissen and mounted in Paris on gilt-bronze (ormolu) bases. The design on the bases corresponds with that of the base of the clock with the elephant also on display here. This was a way of creating a cohesive ensemble.
