In the background is the architecturally significant Auditorium Building. Wabash Avenue contains vintage and modern architecture that create the canyon walls. The elevated structure is responsible for giving the Loop its name as structures above four streets form a loop allowing trains to pass through or circle the area to return to the points of origin.
