A 1930's Rudge Special speedway motorcycle ridden by Jim Kempster. Fully known as Ernest Arthur David Kempster ( 1900 -1945) was an English international speedway rider from England. and the first captain of the England national team. His popular nickname was 'Smiling Jim Kempster'. He died in a plane crash on 29 June 1945 during WWII , while serving with the Air Transport Auxiliary and is buried at the Rheinberg War Cemetery. The Rudge Special appeared in 1938 and despite its name was the standard 500 cc motorcycle in its range , later be eclipsed by eclipsed by the Sports Special .
