A man from the Karen tribe dehusks corn (maize) on a traditional machine operated by his foot.

The man in this village is from the Karen tribe (whose women are usually famous as the long necked Karen.) He lives in a village on land granted to them by the Thai government as they are displaced people. Their traditional homeland is to the north in Burma. They have had to leave their homeland due to persecution by the Burmese army. They now make a living in their village by attracting tourists who come to see the long necked women and buy tourist souvenirs. It is doubtful if he is really dehusking the corn but rather going through an act for the tourist visitors.
