Piazza Navona, Rome. Fountain of the Four Rivers, Bernini, Baroque art, XVII century.


The Piazza Navona is one of the most famous squares in Rome and around the world for the beauty of the artworks present in it. The square follows the route of an ancient stadium, the Stadium of Domitian, first century when the Romans came to him to see agones ("games"). He was known as Circus Agonalis. It is thought that over time the name changed in agone to navone and eventually to Navona. The Piazza Navona contains two other fountains sculpted by Giacomo della Porta - the Fontana di Nettuno (1574), located in the north of the Piazza Navona and the Fontana del Moro (1576), located at the southern.
