The most remarkable antiquity here is Jacobswell. It is covered by an arched stone chamber, entered by a narrow hole in the roof. The mouth ofthe well is covered by a large flat stone with a cir-cular aperture, and its depth is 105 feet. This wellis on the road from Jerusalem, and is visited bymany pilgrims every year. It bears every mark ofgreat antiquity, and is so clearly marked by theEvangelist, that if no tradition existed for its iden-tity, the place could not be mistaken. Weariedwith his journey, the Saviour sat near this well andtaught the Samaritan woman, saying— God is aspirit, and they that worship him must worship himin spirit and in truth. Upon the return of thewoman to the city she reported her remarkable inter-view with Jesus to the people, upon which theyflocked out to hear him. In addressing them, Christpointed his disciples to the waving fields of grainthe plain around, exclaiming, Say not ye there. fry
