A Marine signals Squadron Ldr. Jonathan Smith after his first flight in an F-35B Lightning II aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort Jan. 11. Smith, from the United Kingdom, will be the first international pilot to complete the entire F-35B training syllabus aboard the air station. Smith is a pilot with the Royal Air Force detachment attached to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501, Marine Aircraft Group 31.
