If ever it be a mans duty to fatisfyhimfelf about the goodnefs and lawfulnefs of a thing thathe is apt to doubt of, it is certainly in the cafe wherehis fuperiors have laid their commands upon him; forthere he cannot difobey without fin, unlefs he can af-fure himfelf that he hath done all that he can to recon-cile their commands with his duty to God; but uponthe befl means he hath ufed, he finds them irreconcile-able.
