Apples have been grown commercially in Wenatchee since 1884. Before cheap electricty brought the aluminium plant, apples were the chief employ. Thanks to subsidised chineese aluminium, apples are once again. New orchared are planted somewhat regularly, but existing ones are also being plowed under to make way for neighborhoods and other industry.
