One photo shows a plume of smoke and ash spouting from the top of Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador while a local boy watches, swinging carefree on a tree swing as the volcano spits out fumes. Living With Volcanoes is a photo book by Cris Toala Olivares, a documentary photographer. Cris visited 13 different volcanoes, from Iceland to Indonesia, since the eruption of his local volcano, Tungurahua, in Ecuador in 2014. ?Tungurahua in my native country Ecuador was the first volcano that became a subject for my pictures, and it inspired my journey around the world,? said Cris in his book. ?Not long after we reached the treehouse where Sánchez monitors the volcano and has built a swing from which people can view it, a series of eruptions started. ?I was scared but I tried to whisper to the volcano that I just wanted to catch her best side, like a painter might say when trying to depict a person. ?There was a gentle evening light descending as the ash cloud swirled and I was able to take some fantastic portraits. I think she showed me the reason for her ?throat of fire? Another photo shows two people standing taking pictures on the photo of oncoming lava, cooling as a moves and melting everything in its path.
