Nootka lupin plant (Lupinus nootkatensis) in a coastal plain. This plant was introduced to Iceland from Alaska. It is capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen in soil and has been planted with the intention of improving the soil fertility and reducing soil erosion. The species is now very widespread and in some areas it outcompetes native species. Photographed in Skogasandur, Iceland.
