Business this week surpassed that of last week, despite the scarcity of stock. The present indications are that roses of good quality will not be overplentiful at Christmas. Carnations will be more abundant and will not bring the high prices of previous years, white and col- ors other than red now bringing $5 and $6, and red selling at $7 and $8. Poin- settias of good quality are making their appearance and the prospects are that they will be plentiful, with prices rang- ing from $ to $5 per dozen. Smaller flowers, such as violets and sweet peas, will surpass last year's supply. The quality and prices of valley and orchids will be about the same as in previous holiday seasons. The demand for holly, evergreens and Christmas trees has been unusually large, but this branch of the business is fast slipping from the florists, as every corner grocery handles trees and wreaths. Fancy wreaths for holiday purposes arrive and are used by the flo- rists in place of holly. These are made of magnolia leaves festooned with thistle, red berries, teasel, red ruscus and im- mortelles. Various Notes, A. F. .T.
